Thug who mugged a man for his motorbike on his own doorstep jailed

A thug who robbed a Runcorn man for his motorbike outside his victim's house has been sent down for 22 months.

Mantas Savickas, 21, of Wellbrook Green, Speke, had threatened the 18 year old as he was putting away his vehicle on Mooring Close in Murdishaw at around 1.50-2pm on Tuesday, March 5.

Cheshire police reported at the time that Savickas then made off with the blue and white Yamaha YZ 85 off-road motorbike.

He pushed it to the nearby Runcorn Amateur Boxing Club car park before riding off into the wooded area that leads to Gorsewood Road.

Officers appealed for information over the robbery, with Detective Constable Phil Brown describing it as a "terrifying" incident.

DC Brown said the teenage victim had been "extremely shaken up" by his ordeal.

The motorbike was found elsewhere in Murdishaw on the day it was stolen.

Savickas was later charged with robbery and having a bladed article, but he was found not guilty of having a knife at Chester Crown Court on Tuesday.

He had previously admitted the robbery.

Another defendant, Darren Garbe, 19, of Greyhound Farm Road, Speke, was sentenced this morning to six months' detention for handling stolen goods in connection with the robbery but was expected to be released on licence today because of time served on remand.

Recorder Sarah Johnston, presiding yesterday, sentenced Savickas to 22 months in prison and slapped him with a four-year restraining order.
