Thug who left woman permanently disfigured in vicious attack may avoid jail

Sentence has been further deferred on a Moodiesburn thug who left a woman “permanently disfigured” following a vicious attack.

Martin Naylor targeted the terrified female at a property in Cumbernauld on February 9.

Hostile Naylor “repeatedly seized her by the body”, pushed her – causing her to “collide with a wall” – and “struggled violently” with his victim, causing her to fall to the ground and leading to her serious injury.

The 31-year-old Bridgeburn Drive resident admitted assaulting the woman and reports examining his background were due to be compiled.

But, during Naylor’s return to Airdrie Sheriff Court last week, his defence solicitor revealed the reports were “unavailable”.

After warning Naylor about the importance of the reports being completed, Sheriff Morag Shankland continued proceedings for a criminal justice social work report and restriction of liberty assessment until August 29.
