Thug who choked and smacked friend with glass bottle in brutal attack jailed

A thug who pounced on his student friend in a brutal New Year's Day attack has been jailed for 10 months.

Tokunbo Samuel, 19, choked Andrew McCaig then smacked him with a glass bottle.

The pair were at a party in the early hours of January 1 this year  at the victim's student digs in Bath Street, Glasgow.

Mr McCaig was badly hurt including being left with fractured cheekbones.

Samuel pled guilty to assaulting his friend to his severe injury while on early release from another sentence.

Thug jailed for 16 months after knife raid on Shettleston shop

He struck after being freed early from a previous jail-term.

A hearing was told how the pair had started arguing at the flat.

CCTV showed Mr McCaig in a confrontation with Samuel which lasted four minutes.

Prosecutor Marie McCue said: “Mr McCaig pushed Samuel but he didn't react aggressively and tried to calm him down.

“Samuel then strangled him and punched him to the face with both hands.

"He also struck him with a bottle.”

Witnesses raced to Mr McCaig's aid and dialled 999.

The court heard the victim was initially unable to speak due to his injuries.

But, he still managed to identify Samuel as his attacker.

Sheriff John McCormick told Samuel: “This was an assault to severe injury involving a bottle and you are a danger to the public.”

The sheriff said Samuel must also complete 118 days from the previous sentence.
