A criminal who invited his son round for drinks to "try and be a better father" after spending years in jail ended by beating him up shouting "I'm the f****** Daddy" and trying to drag him out of the house, a court has heard.
John Thomson, 46, left his son, 25-year-old Dylan Moore, pouring with blood after the incident in Bonnybridge, Stirlingshire.
Falkirk Sheriff Court was told today that on October 4th 2020 Mr Moore had been having a drink and watching television with Thomson and his partner Nicole Robertson in a house in Bonnyside Road, Bonnybridge.
Around 11 pm, "bickering" broke out between Thomson and Mr Moore.
Prosecutor Cheryl Clark said this was due to Thomson being "unhappy at the way Mr Moore had behaved towards Miss Robertson".
Ms Clark said: "Sometime after midnight Mr Moore was sitting on the sofa in the living room when the accused sat on top of him and began to punch him on the head.
"Miss Robertson made attempts to stop the accused, but shortly afterwards, he shouted "I'm the f****** Daddy", stood up from his chair, head-butted Mr Moore and dragged him into the hallway where Mr Moore sustained a gash in the back of his head having struck it on a wall while he was being dragged."
Thomson then left the house, and Ms Roberston called police.
Police, who were on the scene within 12 minutes, and found "a large amount of blood in the living room and hallway".
Thomson, who was caught hiding behind a neighbour's garden shed, told police: "I know, I've assaulted my boy."
Mr Moore was taken by ambulance to hospital, where he was found to have swelling and a laceration up to 3cm long on the back of his head, which had to be glued.
He also had a black eye, swelling and lacerations on his nose, and abrasions on his back and legs.
Appearing by video link from Low Moss Prison, Thomson, of Glasgow, a self-employed gutter-cleaner, pleaded guilty to assault.
The court heard he had been released from Glenochil Prison eight months earlier, having served the entirety of a sentence from the High Court for a number of offences including assault.
Solicitor Graeme Brown, defending, said: "He then began a relationship with Miss Robertson.
"He's only got one child, and that's Dylan, and by his own admission hadn't been the best father to Dylan throughout his life.
"On his release he had decided to do something about that and he describes the months since his release as much better.
"On this occasion he and Miss Robertson had invited Dylan over for a drink and to socialise.
"It appears that during the course of the night Dylan received a call from an individual to whom he owed a debt, and alcohol having been taken, Dylan was a little abrasive towards this individual in the call.
"This was a bone of contention to Miss Robertson because over the course of the last eight months Mr Thomson had regularly given Dylan money and she wanted that to end.
"Tensions began to rise and Mr Moore was threatening towards Miss Robertson, including when he was in possession of a bottle.
"Mr Thomson's intention at all stages was to eject Mr Moore from the property because he was being abusive towards his partner.
"His injuries were caused when Mr Thomson was dragging him along the floor in an attempt to get him to leave.
"Its an incident which Mr Thomson's not proud of, he shouldn't have behaved in this manner."
Mr Brown said he recognised a custodial sentence was almost inevitable.
Sheriff Christopher Shead deferred sentence until March 9th for a report.
He said: "The purpose of the report is to analyse the question of risk that Mr Thomson may pose on his release."
