Thug who attacked girlfriend's dog with knife jailed for two years

A thug who attacked his girlfriend’s dog with a knife has been jailed for two years.

Sean McKay repeatedly struck an American bulldog called Hooch with a blade in a house in Girvan, Ayrshire, in February.

The 19-year-old, from Stranraer, was convicted unanimously by a jury at Ayr Sheriff Court.

Sheriff John Montgomery barred McKay from owning a pet for the rest of his life.

He imposed the maximum 12 months in custody for the animal cruelty offence, adding three months because the attack was committed while on bail.

He also sentenced McKay to seven months for threatening behaviour towards his then-girlfriend and two other women, plus two months because it was committed while on bail.
