Thug uncle left nephew scarred in knife attack after drinking session

A thug who scarred his nephew with a knife later told police officers he'd do jail time for attempted murder.

Brian Limond, 47, pounced on Michael Farquar at his flat in Glasgow's Garthamlock area last March.

The pair got involved in an "altercation" after a drunken argument in the early hours of the morning.

Glasgow Sheriff Court heard Limond "struck Mr Farquar to the body with a kitchen knife which caused a small puncture wound to his right side."

Limond dialled 999 and officers later found Mr Farquar in the living room with a wound on his face.

Limond "became erratic" and repeatedly told the officers to arrest him and confessed to the assault.

Prosecutor Mark Allan said: "He showed officers the hand motion as to how he had stuck Mr Farquar.

"He also stated: 'I'll take attempted, I done him, I went for him with a knife'."

Limond provided the officers with the knife from the kitchen worktop and he was arrested.

Paramedics attended to Mr Farquar meantime who was bleeding from his ribcage but refused treatment.

Mr Allan said: "The paramedic's view is that the wound may scar."

Limond pled guilty today to the assault to Mr Farquar’s injury.

Mark Allen, defending, told the court the altercation started after Mr Farquar refused to leave Limond's flat.

He added: "Following that, he went to the kitchen to retrieve the kitchen knife with the intention of brandishing it at Mr Farquar.

"This was to get him to leave but he didn't."

Sentence was deferred until next month for background reports by Sheriff Ian Miller who granted Limond bail meantime.
