Thug sets fire to Thorntonhall railway line before boarding train towards Glasgow

An appeal for witnesses has been launched by police after a man set fire to the railway at Thorntonhall train station around six miles south of Glasgow.

The incident, which took place around 7.45pm on Saturday, May 29, saw a man approach the far end of the platform and set fire to the railway and adjacent fence, causing serious damage to private property worth over £200.

The man then boarded the 8.04pm service towards Giffnock.

He is described as a white male in his mid-20s, of medium build and average height. He was seen wearing all black clothing with his hood up, carrying a black backpack with a white logo.

British Transport Police officers are keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to help with their investigation.
