Thug repeatedly beats man in head with hammer after breaking into house

A violent thug repeatedly beat a man in the head with a hammer after breaking into a house.

The 52-year-old victim was rushed to hospital after the severe beating on January 15 when a stranger entered his property on New Chester Road, in Rock Ferry, at around 6pm.

It is believed that the man was then repeatedly struck to the head and body with the hammer.

He was treated for serious injuries at hospital but police are now appealing for help from the public to find the person who attacked him.

A CCTV image has been released of a man that officers believe could help with their investigation.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "We are issuing the CCTV image of a man who may have information following a suspected targeted assault in Rock Ferry last month.

"At around 6pm on Wednesday 15 January, a report was received of entry being gained to a property on New Chester Road and a 52-year-old man being seriously assaulted.

"The victim was taken to hospital by ambulance and treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries to his head and body.

"Extensive CCTV and witness enquiries have been ongoing."

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Nilsen, said: “We would like to speak to the man pictured as he may have information to assist our enquiries.

"This is a very serious assault which included the use of a hammer striking to the victim’s head, leaving him with multiple injuries.

“If you recognise the man pictured, please come forward to us, directly or anonymously, and we will take positive action and out those responsible for this serious violence before the courts."
