Thug punches woman in face after she wrestled him off in failed Wicklow break-in attempt

A woman was punched in the face in her own home as she tried to wrestle off a violent thief during an early morning attempted break-in in Wicklow.

The vicious man entered her house in Ballanagh Crescent, Avoca in Wicklow at 10am on Wednesday morning and asked the woman if she wanted cosmetics.

She refused and when the woman demanded that the thief leave, he grabbed her.

The woman did manage to wrestle the thug off but he punched her in the face before fleeing the scene.

Gardai are currently reviewing CCTV footage from around the area and are urging anyone who may have seen anything to contact Gardai in Arklow on (0402) 32304.

In a statement to Dublin Live, a spokeswoman for the gardai said they are "investigating a report of an alleged assault that occurred at a house in Ballanagh Crescent, Avoca, Co. Wicklow on Wednesday, 2nd October 2019 at approximately 10.00am".

She added: "No arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing."
