Thug punched single mum's foot and grabbed her throat in sickening attack

A trainee bricklayer wrapped his arm around a single mum's neck and punched her foot, a court heard. Giorgi Morris, 24, of Maid Marian Way, Boughton, attacked the terrified woman as their relationship came to an end.

Nottingham Crown Court heard Morris was angry after he thought his girlfriend had been texting someone on her phone on September 22, 2021. A verbal row escalated, with Morris damaging her iPhone and wrapping his arm around her neck very briefly.

He then grabbed her upper arms and pushed her repeatedly at her Ollerton home. The couple's verbal argument continued and became physical again, with Morris grabbing her by the waist. She fell to the floor, she got up, and he grabbed her throat and pushed her away, then punched her foot.

Morris pleaded guilty to assault, causing bodily harm, and causing criminal damage to her phone, her television, laptop and Ikea wardrobe. Judge Stuart Rafferty QC sentenced him to a two-year community order, to complete a "building better relationships" programme, and 100 hours of unpaid work.

He will pay the victim £500 compensation and be subject to a restraining order for five years. The judge told him on Wednesday (April 27) it was the second time he has appeared before a court for an offence of violence against someone he was in a relationship with.

"There is nothing manly about hitting women," he said. Mitigating, Mark Knowles said Morris "packed his bags and left after this".
