Thug punched partner after she refused to stab him with a knife

A thug who punched his partner after she refused his demand to stab him with a knife was jailed today for 15 months.

James Evans, 21, assaulted Leticia O’Reilly, 27, at her home in Thornliebank on Easter Monday this year.

Glasgow Sheriff Court heard a drunk Evans was allowed in by Miss O’Reilly but was loud and incoherent.

Evans was told to go to bed or leave but refused.

He returned from the kitchen and brandished a blade at Miss O’Reilly and her cousin threatening to knife them.

Prosecutor Mark Allan said: “This quickly changed to him asking her to stab him. He took his t-shirt off and told them to stab him.

“Miss O’Reilly said no and that was when he punched her on the head and burst her lip.”

Evans claimed he was going to stab a constable after police turned up.

It emerged the thug had flouted a curfew.

He pled guilty today to attacking Miss O’Reilly’s injury, police assault and the breach of curfew.

Tony Callaghan, defending, told the court Evans was grieving at the time due to the recent death of his mother and has no recollection of the incident.

Sheriff Ian Fleming imposed a two-year non-harassment order against Miss O’Reilly as well as the prison sentence.
