Thug locked woman and child in house in horrifying two-day ordeal

A paranoid man locked a woman and a child in a house and subjected her to a frightening two-day ordeal, including threatening to cut off her toes "one by one", as he was wrongly convinced she was cheating.

Dale Bennett, 30, also humiliated his former partner by pouring both food and alcohol over her head, throwing her clothes out of the window and punching her in an intimate part of her body while she lay naked on the bed.

Hull Crown Court heard how Bennett struck the woman repeatedly in front of the child, choked her and threatened to "cut off her toes one by one" while holding a knife next to her foot, Hull Live reports.

When the woman attempted to escape the house to report the incident to police, he followed her on two occasions holding the child and threatening her with his welfare.

After the police were finally made aware of the ordeal following a brave escape by the woman, they discovered Bennett on the toilet at a neighbouring property where he was tasered after resisting arrest.

Hull Crown Court heard how Bennett had a history of paranoia in relationships, often becoming convinced that his partners were cheating on him.

On the night of August 13, 2021, he left the shared home, which he had locked and taken the only set of keys, and sent his victim multiple pictures of him with other women in an attempt to make her jealous.

Upon returning to the property, the woman decided to try and calm the situation and sit in a chair in the front room, but Bennett proceeded to punch her repeatedly in the side of the head.

The woman tried to make breakfast for the child and Bennett came into the kitchen and poured a cheese dunker over her hair continuing his accusations.

The victim went to take a shower and returned to the bedroom to find Bennett trying to apologise and initiate sex.

When she refused he slammed her head into a wardrobe, made her lay on the bed naked and punched her in the vagina.

He then threw her clothes out of the window and told her that she would have to stay naked until she admitted "what she had done".

Later, Bennett would threaten to stab the victim, making motions toward her with a knife and pricking her skin on her body.

He also pinned her down and began cutting into the side of the toe on her left foot telling her he would cut off her toes one by one unless she told him she had been cheating.

During the ordeal, Bennett had also wrapped his hand around the victim's throat, using his other hand to cover her mouth to stop her calling out and restricting her breathing.

The victim eventually escaped the house while Bennett was asleep on August 15, some two days after she had originally been imprisoned, and made her way to a police station.

The court heard that Bennett was found by officers at a neighbouring address and was on the toilet at the time of his arrest where he was tasered for resisting.

During transport to hospital for medical treatment following the arrest he coughed at security staff telling them that he had Covid-19.

Bennett, of Harvest Way, Goole, admitted coercive and controlling behaviour and assaulting emergency workers.

In mitigation, the court heard he suffered from paranoia in multiple previous relationships and turned to drink and drugs in attempt to manage it.

This had the opposite effect of making him volatile and unpredictable and leading to horrific incidents like the one suffered by the victim.

Addressing Bennett, Judge Sophie McKone said: "You subjected your partner and child to the most frightening ordeal.

"You were controlling, coercive and abusive.

"You coughed towards security staff doing their jobs who have a right to work in a safe environment, it matters not if you had Covid or not that was a dangerous act.

"You are someone that uses violence and intimidation to get what you want and you blame your victim for your behaviour."

Bennett was sentenced to 25 months in prison.
