A thug kicked a woman in the head after she had a run-in with his girlfriend during a night-out.
Darell Hotchkiss carried out the drunken attack on Ellen MacInnes in Musselburgh, East Lothian.
The 25-year-old appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Wednesday and admitted a charge of assault.
Defence agent Rebecca Weissgerber, acting for Hotchkiss, said: “I can’t stress enough how thoroughly ashamed he is.”
Ms Weissgerber said Hotchkiss and his partner had been socialising with another couple when the two women became involved in “some sort of altercation”.
The solicitor said her client had suffered “clouded judgement” when he lashed out and kicked Ellen in the head while “intoxicated”.
Hotchkiss, she added, said he “can’t believe” what he’d done and “especially to a female”.
Ms Weissgerber said: “He accepts his conduct was inexcusable.”
The attack took place in Bridge Street, Musselburgh, on August 26 last year.
Sheriff Adrian Cottam deferred sentence on dad-of-one Hotchkiss, of Prestonpans, East Lothian, until July.
