A thug who fractured a man’s eye socket in a row over a stolen mobile phone has been jailed for 11 months.
Robert Connelly, 38, punched Peter Brown in the face during the attack in Glasgow's Renfrew Street on 7 April 2020.
The victim had pleaded for the handset back after letting Connelly's friend borrow it.
Prosecutor Shona Howie told Glasgow Sheriff Court: “They started walking away from Mr Brown, who continually asked for his phone to be returned.
“He followed them and Connelly ran towards him which caused Mr Brown to run away.
“Connelly seized him and repeatedly struck him on the head.”
Connelly admitted attacking the victim to his severe injury.
It was revealed Connelly has two previous convictions for assault from 1999 and 2013.
Sheriff Ian Miller said: "The other man was making off with Mr Brown's phone and you got yourself involved.
"One reason put forward is that you expected an attack from Mr Brown but there was little basis for that.
"You say your judgement was clouded by alcohol and was a last attempt at justification but it doesn't persuade me at all."
