Thug jailed for 16 months after knife raid on Shettleston shop

A thug who raided a shop while armed with two knives has been jailed for 16 months.

Christopher Mowatt (30) robbed the Scotmid store in Shettleston, Glasgow in March this year.

He demanded a worker open a till while clutching the blades.

Prosecutor Lucy Adams told Glasgow Sheriff Court: “She did this and gave him £195.

“Mowatt then dropped one of the knives on the floor and walked out."

Body of woman, 47, found in Partick flat

Police were soon alerted and Mowatt was later identified from CCTV.

He was held at his home in the city's Springboig - but made no comment.

The stolen cash was also found.

Steven Creighton, defending, said: “He started taking street valium and then heroin and became addicted.

“He was doing this to fund his drug addiction.”

Mowatt smiled as Sheriff John McCormick told him a custodial sentence was an appropriate one.
