Thug holds knife to 15-year-old KFC worker's throat to demand cash and chicken

A 15-year-old KFC worker had a knife held to his throat after a thug raced behind the counter and demanded money and food.

The young employee was eventually saved by group of heroic customers who knocked out the would-be armed robber with a golf club.

The worker had been serving customers in the chicken shop south of Brisbane, Australia when the large knifeman strolled in.

He demanded cash and screaming was heard as some people ran out of the restaurant.

One of the customers stood firm and told the thug, who was still holding the knife to the teenager's throat: "If you're hungry, grab a bit of chicken and get the f**k out."

Fellow worker Peace Tombre told News Hub in New Zealand he heard the commotion, and turned to see his colleague in danger.

"I was working in the back and someone just came in and I heard him yelling and I saw he had a knife to one of my workmate's neck. He was asking for the till, to open the till."

Mr Tombre added that he and other kitchen workers escaped out of the drive through window.

The men "kept hitting him until he was unconscious" according to a witness.

The police arrived and arrested a 40-year-old man from Park Ridge, who was been held of the floor by the men.

He was charged with intent to commit an indictable offence and attempted armed robbery. He will appear in court on Friday.
