Thug boasted of 'light work' on Instagram after sentence for crime spree

A 19-year-old man who was jailed over a crime spree in which he stole just £10 has boasted on Instagram that his sentence is "light work".

Jonathon Bran threatened to kill his elderly victim, along with Cameron Hemmings, confronting the 62-year-old as he was walking alone along Chesterfield Canal in Worksop on December 2 last year.

The terrified man decided to jump in the canal in an attempt to escape, with the pair waiting for 15 minutes for him to get out - he eventually fled across the fields and collapsed after climbing over a gate.

Meanwhile, a doctor who was passing was threatened with a knuckle duster before being attacked by Hemmings. Later on, in Gateford Road, Bran told a man to, "give him everything you have" and swore as he said, "I will kill you"

The pair were handed £10, before a motorist stopped and challenged both defendants, who let go of their victim.

Both defendants pleaded guilty to two attempted robberies, robbery and possessing an offensive weapon - the knuckle duster.

Hemmings, aged 21, of no fixed address, received 44 months in prison, because of his previous convictions, and Bran, from Nuthall Road, Nottingham, who had no previous convictions, received 40 months in youth custody.

After receiving his sentence, Hemmings decided to post on his Instagram page - claiming he is "all good" and he will be out in August of next year.

He wrote: "FREE ME UP, OUT AUGEST (sic) 2023. Sentence I got is light work, I'm all goood."

The post, which is open and viewable to the public, attracted some comments criticising him and the post.

One simply said: "Oh dear."

Another person wrote: "Guys be careful he's a hard guy."
