Thug bids to chop off man's fingers in horror attack in Ayrshire flat

A man was rushed to hospital after a brute attempted to chop off his fingers in a horror attack.

The 45-year-old man was injured on Sunday morning.

At around 9.30am, the attacker burst into a flat in James Street, Ayr.

He set about his victim who was taken to Ayr Hospital before being transferred to Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

One source said: “They attempted to chop off the man’s fingers.

"We are not sure what weapon was used but it could have been a machete.”

Police said the motive for the attack is unknown. The suspect is described as about 5ft 9/10in tall.

He was wearing a blue baseball cap and a black scarf was covering his face.

CID have been carrying out door-to-door enquiries and are checking CCTV.

Detective constable Janet Ferguson said: “A man has been left with a very serious hand injury and it’s imperative we trace the man responsible.

"I am appealing to anyone who was in the area to contact us.

"Perhaps you were on your way to the shop for your Sunday paper or out walking your dog?”

Witnesses should contact police on 101 or alternatively telephone Crimestopppers on 0800 555 111, where calls are free and anonymity can be maintained.
