In a season that promised so much, it ended in the most horrible manner.
Nottingham Forest's play-off hopes disintegrated with a soul-destroying second-half collapse against Stoke City at the City Ground.
This is what our Forest reporter Sarah Clapson had to say after the game:
"What a horrible, awful, soul-destroying and crushing night at the City Ground.
"How did it get to this point? How did it reach the final game?
"I have no idea how they didn't see this through.
"I spoke to Sabri Lamouchi after the game and he looked like he was on the verge of tears.
"He looked a broken man, he said he was sorry. He said it was unacceptable, unprofessional, and a disaster.
"Largely, he looked shell-shocked and he was lost for words.
"It was an awful night, Forest just collapsed.
"They shouldn't have even been in this position on the last game of the season.
"The players looked broken and shattered, who can blame them?"
"It feels like they have thrown away a golden opportunity.
"They have made so much progress under Lamouchi and it has all gone to waste.
"It was a season that promised so much hope and generated so much optimism.
"Since the restart, Forest just haven't had enough, it's been a really poor run of form. It's not all about tonight."
"They have been left with nothing to show for it and it's a horrible way to end what should have been a really fantastic season."
