A construction site in Throsby has been shut down due to multiple safety breaches, including an unsupervised electrical apprentice and fall risks.

The residential site was one of 19 which was found to be non-compliant during a workplace safety blitz at one of the north's newest suburbs.

WorkSafe ACT conducted 25 workplace visits in Throsby on Wednesday, issuing fines totaling more than $11,500.

Just one of the locations was found to be compliant and didn't receive any notices.

At the 19 residential construction sites WorkSafe attended, there was 31 improvement notices, eight prohibition notices, and four infringement notices issued.

Work Health and Safety Commissioner Jacqueline Agius, said inspectors reported unsafe scaffolding, amenities not maintained and workers not following safe work regulations.

Ms Agius said it was the third time WorkSafe ACT had been out to Throsby recently.

"I'm disappointed to see there has not been an improvement in work health and safety standards at residential construction sites in this suburb," Ms Agius said.

"We are well past the time for industry to take action and start improving the safety culture at residential construction sites."

Ms Agius said WorkSafe ACT would continue to visit the developing suburbs and issue notices when safety breaches were identified.

"Employers need to look after the health and safety of their staff," Ms Agius said.
