Thriving Manchester firm Contact Originators hires dozens and plans more growth despite serious fire and Covid-19

A Greater Manchester graphic design firm has doubled its headcount and is planning even further growth despite a year that included a serious fire at its HQ and the devastating Covid-19 pandemic.

Contact Originators, a manufacturer of flexographic plates based in Bredbury, Stockport, said has attained its budget for 2020 and has added 18 employees over the last 18 months bringing the total to 75 - with plans for further investment in staffing. It has also not utilised the Government's furlough scheme.

That's despite a year that saw the Covid-19 pandemic prove devastating for businesses across many industries, and a fire that hit its Stockport base back in January.

The incident, which happened in the early hours of January 18, meant Contact Originators lost an entire building, causing the firm to relocate an entire studio to quickly restart production.

Steve Mulcahy, CEO of Contact Group, said: “2020 has been a challenging year for many and we’ve certainly had our share of bad luck with the fire and then of course, Covid-19 creating difficulties for the industry.

"With the support of our supply partners, alongside the resilience and tenacity of the Contact team in maintaining our quality, innovation and service focus, we have accomplished our budget and now investing in bringing new talent into the business.

"These appointments are key to our 2021 expansion plans at our recently announced super site in Dukinfield, Manchester.”

Recent appointments include graphic design artist Anton Butel and technical illustrator Julian Beckett.

Mr Mulcahy added: “It’s an absolute pleasure to be bringing new people into the team at such an exciting time.

"Julian and Anton bring years of expertise, skills and knowledge that will benefit the business and our customers. 2021 holds a great deal of promise for us and I’m looking forward to the months ahead."
