Thriving Hull tech centre C4DI targeted in overnight break-in

Equipment including cameras and tablets were stolen as Hull’s flagship C4DI building was broken into last week.

The tech business centre, in Hull’s Fruit Market, was targeted overnight between Thursday, October 24 and Friday, October 25.

Humberside Police were called to the C4DI – home to some of Hull’s most exciting tech businesses – on Friday morning.

The force has confirmed equipment including cameras and tablets were stolen during the break-in, and have launched an investigation into the incident.

A spokeswoman at Humberside Police said: “An investigation has been launched following a reported break in at an office building on Queen Street in Hull, overnight between Thursday, October 24 and Friday, October 25.

“We were called shortly 8.30am on Friday with reports that someone had broken into the building overnight and stolen various items of electrical equipment, including cameras and tablet computers.

“Enquiries are underway to identify the person responsible and to locate the items and we are asking anyone with any information to please call us on 101 quoting log 94 of 24/10/19.

“Alternatively you can report info anonymously via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”

The C4DI building opened its doors in 2015.

Hundreds of start-ups and tech businesses are now either based in or around the C4DI, working with big hitters including Siemens, RB, Nestle and Saab.

The C4DI building is now fully let, but plans were earlier this year approved for a new building on the site which will create space for tech firms to thrive and grow.

One business affected by the break-in at the C4DI last week was drone filming specialist OctoVision Media.

The company posted a statement on its social media account, and said: “Really sorry we've been quiet this week.

“In the early hours of Friday morning our offices, (and others) were broken into and a considerable amount of gear stolen (including Kids Christmas presents).”

An appeal has now been launched by police to track down those responsible for the break-in.

If you have any information on the incident, contact Humberside Police on 101 quoting log 94 of 24/10/19.
