Thrill-seeking nun paddle boards at Edinburgh beach leaving locals stunned

It's not everyday visitors at Portobello beach in Edinburgh spot a thrill-seeking nun splashing around on a paddleboard.

The nun was dressed in her full habit when she decided to take to the sea on Thursday.

The Sister, who is believed to be called Agnes and from Poland, was spending the day in the capital with two of friends when she was spotted in the water, Edinburgh Live reported.

Kath Thomson shared the funny photo on the Porty People Facebook page - the post said: “Just in case you missed the nun paddle boarding today.

“A lady jokingly offered the nuns a shot of the board and was surprised when one of them took up her invitation. Got to love Porty.”

Caroline Swanson also posted about the unusual sight and gave some information on the three visiting nuns.

Ms Swanson said: “The nun on the board is from Poland and one of the other ladies from Africa. They said they were only in Edinburgh for a few hours.”

Hundreds of locals were also quick to join in the fun after the pictures of the nun frolicking in the water were posted online.

Brian Pendreigh said: “I reckon she expected nun of them would take her up on the offer.”

Heather Stirling posted: “Lovely - I wonder if she’ll make a habit of it.”

And Mark Rintoul added: “Praise the Lord.”
