Threipmuir reservoir: Edinburgh crews continue search for missing man at beauty spot

The search for a man is to continue after he was reported missing at Threipmuir reservoir on Wednesday (July 14).

A host of emergency crews had raced to the local beauty spot in the Pentlands after calls were made to over concerns for a person in the water.

After arriving at the scene between 5.40pm and 6pm, both police and the Scottish Fire and Rescue service carried out a series of searches in and around the water alongside a search helicopter.

However, police confirmed on Thursday (July 15), that searches will continue to locate the man after they failed to trace him on Wednesday.

An area surrounding the reservoir had been cordoned off to the public and will continue to be closed as enquiries continue.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 5.35pm on Wednesday, 14 July, police were called to Threipmuir Reservoir, near Balerno, following concern for a person seen in the water.

"Emergency services attended and carried out searches, however he was not traced. The search will continue today to locate the man.”

Edinburgh Live will update this story with any developments as they happen.
