YAMUNANAGAR: Three youths were reportedly beaten and paraded half naked by villagers in Kharwan village of Yamunanagar district, over suspicion that they committed theft in a shop.
A video of the youths being paraded half naked went viral on social media, in which the villagers can be seen walking behind them.
In the viral video, a villager is heard saying that they committed theft in a shop, therefore, they are being paraded through the village as punishment. "Wherever they received beating with shoes, they received marks", says villager in video.
The police also came to know about the matter from video.
Jagadhri police station house officer (SHO) Kusum Bala said this matter came to her notice through a video which went viral on social media on Saturday.
"I immediately visited Kharwan village to investigate the matter. The villagers told that three youths committed a theft in a shop of gate and grill manufacturer in the village and stole cast iron measuring weights. They were caught selling the stolen cast iron measuring weights to a junk dealer in the village. The incident took place on January 19", said SHO Kusum.
Kharwan village sarpanch Gurjant Singh said that a panchayat was held in the village three-four days ago, when this matter of theft by three men came to light.
“The parents of youths wanted to teach a lesson to their wards, so that they do not repeat the mistake of committing theft again. Therefore, in the panchayat, they decided to parade them half naked in the village,” said village sarpanch Gurjant Singh.
The sarpanch said the matter was resolved in the panchayat and no grievance was pending in this connection.
