Police were called to the M60 earlier today after three young girls were spotted on the side of the carriageway.
The alarm was raised after the trio were seen near junction 12 for Eccles Interchange.
North West Motorway Police tweeted about the incident, saying they had found the children and that they were safe with officers.
They thanked callers for getting in touch.
The full post, put up just after 1pm today (Monday), said: "Huge thank you to all the callers that rang in regarding the three young girls (children) on the side of the motorway J12 clockwise M60.
"We have located the children and they are safely with our officers and have been removed from the motorway."
