Three-year-old suffers broken collarbone after getting knocked down by a van in Swansea

A three-year-old boy has been left with a broken collarbone after getting knocked down by a van Swansea .

Rachel Brock's 16-year-old son Josh had gone to collect his younger brother Oliver from nursery in Waun Wen on Monday afternoon when the incident happened.

The brothers, who were on their way home, were waiting to cross Carmarthen Road at a pedestrian crossing when a van went through while the traffic lights which appeared to be on red.

Mrs Brock, aged 44, said: "My other son was ill so I was at home with him so my 16-year-old went to get Ollie from nursery.

"They were at the lights on Carmarthen Road just after 3pm when the kids were coming out of school and a van shot straight through.

"The driver did get out first of all and said 'are you OK?' and my son said 'I'm not sure' and then he got back in his van and went.

"We rushed him straight to Morriston Hospital where he had an x-ray and he has a broken collarbone."

Oliver has been left wearing a sling following the incident, while his parents have said that they are "fuming" saying the driver did not stop to help their son.

"We've been told to keep an eye on him but he's said that his head is hurting too," his mum added.

"It looks like he was clipped by the shoulder so he can't move his arm and is in a sling at the moment. I can't pick him up either as he is in pain.

"I'm angry that they didn't stop to check that he's OK and my husband is fuming too.

"We just feel helpless."

South Wales Police confirmed it was investigating the incident and urged anyone who could help their enquiries to contact them.

A spokeswoman said: "We were made aware of reports of a road traffic incident involving a child and a van which was reported to have happened at about 3.10pm on Monday, July 1.

"The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information should contact 101 quoting occurrence 1900237753."
