Three-year-old seriously injured by dog attack in popular Valleys park

A three-year-old was attacked by a dog at a popular Pontypridd park, police have confirmed.

Earlier this week it was reported a person was taken to hospital following an "incident involving an animal" at a park in Pontypridd. On Sunday, August 22 there were reports of an air ambulance being seen in the area during the afternoon.

Now police have confirmed a child was attacked by a dog, but a person intervened to help protect the little one from sustaining any further injuries.

South Wales Police said: "We can confirm that a three year-old child was attacked by a dog in the Barry Sidings Country Park, Pontypridd, on Sunday afternoon. A member of the public intervened to prevent further injury to the child, who was taken to hospital with serious but not life threatening injuries. The dog has been seized by officers under the dangerous dogs act, and an investigation is now underway."
