Three-year-old boy attacked by seagull eating a rat in Bristol's Castle Park

A young mum was left fearing for her three-year-old son’s safety after he was attacked by a seagull in Bristol.

The mum, who wished not to be named, and son were walking through the city centre Castle Park when they saw the seagulls fighting over a live but half eaten rat near the castle.

One of the seagulls then ran towards Jordan with his beak open, forcing the youngster to run away.

She said: “My son likes to chase pigeons. There were quite a few seagulls around just next to the castle.

“He shouted seagull as I got close I realised they were fighting over some sort of food.

“I thought someone was feeding them. I realised it was a half-eaten live rat.”

She added: “The seagull went for my son with his beak open.

“I took his hand and told him to run.”

The incident happened at around 4.15pm on Tuesday (June 27) and Miss Moyston, who lives in Kingsdown, had some advice for other parents with young children walking through the park.

She said: “I would say if there’s a lot of food around or if people are feeding the birds, be very careful with your children.

“We walk through the park quite often. It’s getting a bit out of hand now.”
