Three workers at Scots care home test positive for virus as visitors banned

Three workers at a Scots care home have tested positive for Covid-19.

The cases were detected at Parkdale Care Home in Perthshire.

The home in Auchterarder went into lockdown for 28 days after a resident passed away from the deadly bug earlier this week.

Barrie Thom, 93, was the first person to die after contracting Covid-19 in Perthshire since June 9.

The three Parkdale employees who have now tested positive have been told to self-isolate.

The facility is run by Perth and Kinross Council, who said that all staff and residents have been tested.

The home will remain closed to visitors.

A spokesperson Perth and Kinross Health and Social Care Partnership told The Dundee Courier: “No residents have tested positive but three members of staff are self-isolating.

“We would like to reassure residents, their relatives and colleagues that we are taking every possible step to protect them and prevent any further spread of the virus.

“The staff team at Parkdale is working in partnership with NHS Tayside, Public Health Scotland, and Perth and Kinross Council.

“The situation continues to be monitored together with the NHS HPT.

"The multi-agency group has assessed the infection and prevention control plans that are in place in the care home, and they have confidence in the stringent measures we have introduced to control the spread of coronavirus.”

It comes after Nicola Sturgeon said Scotland's R number could be as high as 1.4 with a further 159 people testing positive for coronavirus in the past 24 hours.
