Three women arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder newborn baby

Three women have been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder a newborn baby.

The body of the baby girl was found at the junction of Victoria Street and Old Commercial Road in Portsmouth on the morning of January 25.

A 39-year-old woman, one aged 21 and a 20-year-old, all from Portsmouth, were arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of conspiracy to murder.

All three are currently in custody.

Detective Chief Inspector Simon Baker, of Hampshire Police, said: “We know that this case was upsetting for a lot of people within the community.

“We want to reassure you that our officers are trained to deal with sensitive investigations such as this, which can often be very complex, and will do what is needed to get the right outcome for all those involved.”
