Three West Country beaches have been crowned some of the best in the UK and Europe, according to TripAdvisor.

Weymouth, Newquay and Bournemouth all made it into the top 25 beaches in Europe, according to the TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice Awards 2023. Gorleston-on-Sea in Norfolk was crowned the best in the UK, while Weymouth came second, closely followed by Cornwall's Fistral Beach.

Weymouth's 'immaculate beach' came 14th out of all the coastlines in Europe and 2nd in the UK. Reviewers praised the location for having 'flat waves that are perfect for kids' and being a great spot 'to wander along'.

Meanwhile, Fistral Beach - which attracts surfers from around the world - was ranked 22nd in Europe and third in the UK. Reviewers praised the location for having lots of bars and restaurants.

One person wrote: "Excellent beach, good facilities. You can enjoy a meal, a shoreline walk on the beach or on a footpath. The toilet facilities were clean."

And Dorset's Bournemouth came in 24th in Europe and 4th in the UK. Reviewers loved this spot because of its stunning views.

One reviewer wrote: "Beautiful sandy beach with amazing views across the ocean. You’d forget you were in the UK still. I’d visit again in the summer time."

Taking the top spot for the best British beach was Gorleston-on-Sea in Norfolk, which came in 12th place in Europe's best beaches as well. The seaside town is a hidden gem, offering three miles of beautiful sandy shores.

One avid beach-goer left a TripAdvisor review saying: "This has to be one of the finest beaches in the UK - and I have visited most."

Another reviewer said: "Regular visitors of this beach and pier, sometimes we don’t even get out the car, just get a bag of chips, pick a great parking spot with incredible views and watch the waves crash against the side of the pier during a storm."
