Three-week-old baby girl dies in house in Edinburgh

The death of a three-week-old baby girl is being treated as “unexplained” by police.

The tragedy unfolded in Edinburgh’s Drylaw area on Tuesday morning when emergency services were called to a house.

It’s understood the little girl had just been breastfed by her devastated mum who discovered the tot not breathing when she woke up.

The baby was rushed to hospital but sadly passed away.

Police said their inquiries are ongoing.

A spokesman said: “Police in Edinburgh were called to an address in the Drylaw area at around 3.10am on Tuesday 30th July following a report that a 3-week-old baby girl had taken unwell.

“Emergency services attended but the baby was sadly pronounced dead on the way to hospital.

“The death is currently being treated as unexplained and inquiries are ongoing. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
