Three-week-old baby girl dies in Edinburgh ambulance after being rushed to hospital

A three-week-old baby girl has died after her mum discovered she wasn't breathing in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Emergency services raced to the home in Drylaw at around 3:10am on Tuesday (30 July) when her mum raised the alarm.

It is understood that the little girl had just been breastfed by her mum who discovered that the baby was not breathing when she woke up.

The baby was rushed away in an ambulance but sadly pronounced dead on the way to the hospital.

Police say they death is currently being treated as unexplained and their inquiries are ongoing.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Police in Edinburgh were called to an address in the Drylaw area at around 3.10am on Tuesday 30th July following a report that a 3-week-old baby girl had taken unwell.

“Emergency services attended but the baby was sadly pronounced dead on the way to hospital.

“The death is currently being treated as unexplained and inquiries are ongoing. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
