Three ways to save up to £1,456 in 2021 without even noticing you're doing it

Saving money can be tough, but with a little help there are ways to make it simpler.

That's where these three money-saving plans come into play - each uses simple prompts to help make putting cash away not just automatic, but affordable too.

The first, and the one that saves you the most money, is the 365 day Money Saving Challenge.

The idea is that each day of the week you save a little bit - £1 in on a Monday, £2 on a Tuesday, and so on up to £7 on a Sunday. Then start it all again the following week.

It means you'll be saving £28 a week - with 52 weeks in the year that adds up to £1,456 in total.

The next savings challenge people got excited about last year was the 52-week money challenge - where you start small and build up.

At the end of the first week of the year you put £1 aside, at the end of the second week you save £2 more and so on until you are putting £52 away in the last week of December (it starts on the 27th in 2021).

Pull it off, and you'll be sitting on £1,378 just in time for New Year's Eve - comfortably enough to book the summer holiday in the January Sales.

Of course, this does mean dedicating more of your free cash to savings in the at the end of the year when things tend to get a bit more expensive, which might not be possible.

But the good news is that if you take December off and save nothing that month,  you'll end up with more than £1,000 saved in time for the Festive Season.

Perhaps the easiest and most popular last year was the Penny Challenge - where you put aside money from your loose change every day.

Starting with 1p, you then build up by another penny each day.

If you keep it up you hit £1 on Friday 9 April, £2 on Sunday 18 July and £3 on Tuesday 26 October.

Your pot at the end of the year isn't as big at £667.95 - but it's still plenty of cash to hit the sales with and should more than cover the cost of Christmas.
