Three ways Liverpool could line-up against Tottenham amid Jurgen Klopp’s tricky conundrum

Tottenham Hotspur face a difficult task this weekend as they take on Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.

Spurs welcome the Reds to north London, with their opponents having chalked up a stunning run of form over recent weeks.

They have won their last six Premier League games and sit just one point behind current table-toppers Manchester City.

Jurgen Klopp ’s squad has been hit by a familiar foe though - Covid-19 - with a number of the current squad having potentially returned positive tests.

That is a problem that Spurs are well-versed in having seen a handful of games postponed over recent weeks.

Here, football.london takes a look at three ways Liverpool could potentially line-up.

Unchanged

Following their great run, it would potentially make sense for Liverpool to remain unchanged. This would see Ibrahima Konate partner Joel Matip at the heart of the defence, with Virgil van Dijk remaining out.

Jordan Henderson, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Thiago Alcantara would form the Reds’ midfield trio in the continued absences of Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott.

Meanwhile, Mohamed Salah and Diogo Jota would no doubt be keen to continue their recent good form having both found the net against Newcastle United last time out. Sadio Mane would then round-off the team.

Midfield shuffle

Owing to various injuries and potential Covid cases, the only real department in the Liverpool side that could be altered is their midfield.

Thiago Alcantara has been in great form recently, whilst it appears unlikely that Klopp would drop Henderson any time soon.

This would leave former Arsenal man Oxlade-Chamberlain somewhat vulnerable to losing his place. A potential replacement for the Englishman could potentially be Naby Keita.

The former RB Leipzig man has not started since October but could well be an option.

Surprise striking switch

One somewhat surprising alteration that Klopp could be tempted to make ahead of the trip to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium could potentially be to refresh his attack.

Senegalese forward Sadio Mane has not scored in any of his last five Premier League matches and could well be afforded a rest - especially in the midst of a hectic festive period.

Whilst the Reds cannot call on the services of Divock Origi, Roberto Firmino could be called into the starting line-up having recently recovered from injury.

The Brazilian has a very decent record against Spurs too, so that could potentially play into Klopp’s decision on whether to play him on Sunday.
