Three virus cases in Tasmania quarantine

Tasmania has recorded three coronavirus infections in hotel quarantine, breaking the island's 120-day run without a new case.

A woman in her 30s and two children under 10 arrived on Sunday on a repatriation flight from Delhi in India and tested positive on Tuesday.

They will be moved to the Royal Hobart Hospital for further assessment based on the mother's health and the children's ages, Premier Peter Gutwein said.

They travelled as a family of four, but the woman's husband tested negative.

"We fully expected that there would be cases of COVID in quarantine because of the high risk posed by international travellers," Mr Gutwein said.

He said Tasmania would still receive three more repatriation flights as planned, part of a national effort to help Australians return home from overseas.

Mr Gutwein said all coronavirus protocols have been followed and no workers had been forced into isolation.

"The clinical advice and the public health advice is that we're in a very robust position," he said.

"The virus is not loose in our community. It's contained in isolation."

The woman has developed symptoms but the children have not.

All 118 people aboard the charter flight have been tested since entering hotel quarantine, with a further round to be undertaken in coming days.
