Three vehicle crash on M62 near Leeds causes nine miles of queues as drivers head to Christmas sales

A three vehicle crash on the M62 near Leeds has caused nine miles of queues as people head to the Christmas sales.

The accident happened on the eastbound carriageway between junction 26 for Chain Bar and junction 27 for Gildersome at around 11am.

The three crashed vehicles were blocking lanes three and four before Highways and West Yorkshire Police moved them to the hard shoulder.

Lane one remained closed as a safety precaution.

All lanes were reopened shortly after midday but our travel partner INRIX is still reporting around nine miles of traffic on the motorway before Leeds with queues stretching back to junction 24 for Ainley Top.

The queue is slow-moving rather than at a stand-still so drivers are taking around 30 minutes to work their way through it.

Highways England warned: "Traffic is heavy in the area with people heading to find a bargain in the Christmas sales."
