Three ultras linked to Jammu and Kashmir sarpanch’s killing shot dead

SRINAGAR: Security forces killed three “wanted” terrorists of the Lashkar-e-Taiba-backed The Resistance Force in a shootout on Wednesday in Nowgam on the outskirts of Srinagar. Kashmir range IGP Vijay Kumar said these three were involved in the killing of sarpanch Sameer Ahmed Bhat in his home in Pulwama district’s Khanmoh on March 9.

Before this, J&K police arrested three Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists on Monday, one of whom had killed sarpanch Shabir Ahmad Mir in his home in Kulgam district, 70km south of Srinagar, on March 11.

The TRF men were killed when a security team surrounded a one-storey house early on Wednesday in the Shankarpora locality of Nowgam on specific information that terrorists were hiding there. The cornered terrorists started shooting and shifted to an adjacent two-storey house, but were subsequently killed in counter-fire.

The slain terrorists were identified as Adil Nabi Teli of Galchibal Chandhara in Pampore district, Shakir Ahmad Tantray of Ronipora in Shopian and Yasir Ahmad Wagay of Kujer Frisal in Kulgam.

Teli and his associates were behind the killing of police inspector Pervaiz Ahmad Dar at Menganwari in Nowgam in June 2021, police said. He was also involved in a grenade attack in Srinagar.

Police seized an AK-series rifle, two pistols, and bullets and magazines at the site of the shootout, IGP Kumar said.
