Emergency services were called to the Western Highway near Gerang Gerung, between Nhill and Dimboola in the Wimmera, shortly after 1:00am.

Police say an Adelaide-bound B-double collided with two trucks heading towards Melbourne.

The west-bound truck rolled off the road, coming to rest in a paddock while one of the Melbourne-bound b-doubles tipped, spilling its load.

One driver, a 20-year-old man from Dandenong North, was flown to the Royal Melbourne Hospital with life-threatening injuries where he remains in a stable condition.

A hospital spokesperson said the man suffered upper and lower body injuries.

The two other men, aged 64 and 61, were taken by ambulance to the Wimmera Hospital in a stable condition with no obvious injuries.

A CFA spokesperson said the crash left diesel fuel and pig carcasses strewn across the road.

The highway was closed for most of Friday as authorities cleared debris and crash investigators examined the scene.

It reopened to traffic in both directions shortly before 6:00pm.
