Three things we spotted at Scotland training as battle for Cyprus and Spain starting spots begins

The Scotland squad are together and look in high spirits as the road to Euro 2024 begins.

The Dark Blues kick off their qualifying campaign this weekend as Cyprus make the trip to Hampden Park. Steve Clarke is no stranger to the nation after a dramatic first game in charge back in 2019. Skipper Andy Robertson and Oli Burke hit the goals that day with the national team gaffer hoping things will be less frantic this time around. Spain come calling to Mount Florida next week in a huge double-header in front of the Tartan Army.

The team have gathered at their new Lesser Hampden base as preparations begin. Here's three things we spotted from training today.

Glove battle

Long-term No1 Craig Gordon is missing due to his season ending injury at club level for Hearts meaning it is a three-way fight between uncapped trio Angus Gunn, Zander Clark and Liam Kelly to put on the gloves come Saturday lunchtime.

Gunn decleared himself as eligible for selection by Steve Clarke and has landed a call. A huge week for the trio who will be working as hard as possible to impress and land a first run out on the international scene.

KT hard at work

Kieran Tierney got down to hard work as he hopes to land extended game-time as the struggle for consistent minutes at club level continue.

He's fallen down the pecking order under former Rangers midfielder and current Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta with his time on the park limited to minutes off the bench of late.

Oleksandr Zinchenko has been in stunning form for the Gunners and has helped them keep up their title charge with an eight point cushion over Manchester City - having played a game more.

The Celtic diehard has been a key player on the international scene and will likely relish the break from club football to get his confidence back and flying.

New surroundings

It was a change of scenery for the Scotland squad as they took to Queen's Park new Lesser Hampden home.

The stadium is not quite ready yet for competitive football but the national team have decided to use it as their new base rather than the Oriam.

In the shadows of Hampden and only a ten minute journey to the city centre, it is an ideal location for the squad.

Hopefully the fresh starts leads to us sitting on six points by Tuesday night.
