Three things spotted in Manchester United training as Erik ten Hag discovers joker in the pack

Manchester United will be going in pursuit of a third successive Premier League win for the first time since last December when they travel to the King Power Stadium to face Leicester City on Thursday evening.

The Reds, who were beaten 4-2 on their last visit to this particular corner of the Midlands, registered a second straight win on Saturday, beating Southampton 1-0 at St Mary's. Bruno Fernandes netted the only goal of the contest, ensuring Erik ten Hag's side built on their 2-1 win over Liverpool five days earlier.

But although United have now moved on from their 4-0 drubbing at the hands of Brentford almost three weeks ago, Ten Hag is refusing to rest on his laurels, insisting a lot more is still to come from his players, as they continue to familiarise themselves with his demands. He, therefore, will be hoping for another progressive performance against Leicester.

Ten Hag demands nothing but the very best, meaning his players continued to be worked hard on the training ground. With that said, MEN Sport has looked at three things we picked out from the players' latest training session at Carrington, as they prepare for the clash with Brendan Rodgers' side.

McClaren has a word

If any United player has work to do to get back into Ten Hag's plans, it's Harry Maguire. The skipper has been left out of the starting line-up for each of the Reds' last two matches, with Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez preferred at centre-back.

He is unlikely to win his place back for the trip to Leicester and faces an uphill struggle to dislodge either of the aforementioned duo, especially if they help United record another clean sheet at the King Power. He started the opening two games, suggesting that Ten Hag favoured a partnership of him and Martinez.

Varane, however, has replaced Maguire, meaning he now faces a stern battle to win his place back. Ahead of the training session getting underway, assistant boss Steve McClaren was spotted having a conversation with the England defender as they made their way out onto the pitches.

The details of the conversation, of course, are unknown but is possible that the former England boss may have given the former Leicester man some much-needed advice.

Dalot sees the funny side

Although Ten Hag takes his training sessions very seriously, there are often occasions, even if just for a few seconds, where the players let their hair down - literally. Taking part in a fitness drill, right-back Diogo Dalot was behind Fred and noticed that some of his hair was flapping around in the wind, so he made his move to make it look nice and neat again.

After having to put his hair back neat and tidy once, the wind moved some of it again, meaning Dalot was on hand to repeat the trick and ensure Fred looked nice and tidy. It generated a laugh from the Brazilian before Dalot turned around and put a smile on Casemiro's faces, presumably with a joke of some sort.

The pair were then laughing between themselves for a few seconds, meaning something must have amused the pair of them. Whatever it was, it shows there are good spirits within the camp currently.

Studying

As United's players took part in a collective running drill, they were watched closely by four members of the coaching team. The quartet featured assistant manager Mitchell van der Gaag, Darren Fletcher, Benni McCarthy and Eric Ramsay.

The players appeared to be taking part in a relay-style running drill, with one member of the coaching team standing among the players looking at his wristwatch. Although Ten Hag was not spotted keeping a particularly close eye on this drill, his collection of right-hand men most certainly were. Every fine detail is scrutinised closely.
