Three things Ralf Rangnick must do to turn around dressing room mess at Manchester United

What a strange few days it's been for Manchester United supporters, who've seen constant reports of dressing room discontent under the interim boss, Ralf Rangnick.

The MEN have reported that many of the players in the United dressing room are reportedly unhappy with current proceedings at the club. These have all emerged since the abysmal 1-0 home defeat to Wolves on Monday evening.

To put it simply, the club is in a mess, and it's hard to picture how things can improve because the whole set-up seems to be completely broken.

Things can change, but it's going to take a monumental effort from Rangnick to change the fortunes around and spearhead United to a top-four finish.

This got us thinking, so our United On My Mind writer, Omar Garrick, has listed three things Ralf Rangnick must do to change the fortunes of the Manchester United dressing room.

1. Sell a lot of them!

It's easier said than done, but United could get rid of the players who don't want to be at the club. You can assume that some of those are the ones that are unhappy with everything that's going on, claiming they already have doubts about the manager.

Anthony Martial has confirmed he wants to leave Old Trafford, while Dean Henderson, Jesse Lingard and Donny van de Beek aren't getting any game time. Eric Bailly is reportedly unhappy, Paul Pogba has less than six months remaining on his current United deal, and Edinson Cavani is a free agent in the summer.

There's probably more I could name, but many of the current players need to be given a fresh start because they don't want to be at the club. There's no point keeping individuals who don't want to be here; otherwise, it's going to get more toxic than it already is. United needs to be active in the January transfer window if this is the case.

Things will only get better if most of the dressing room wants to be at the club.

2. Bring in some fresh faces

A lot of the noise coming out of Old Trafford is that any incomings will likely happen in the summer rather than the winter. However, MEN understands that United is in the new midfielder market.

United need to be moving as quickly as possible to bring in a new number eight/six because there's a gaping hole in the middle of the park which needs addressing.

At the same time, Rangnick will need to bring in some fresh faces to offload players this month, which is necessary because United still requires a relatively big squad.

Ruben Neves, Boubacar Kamara and Amadou Haidara are names that continue to get linked, but whether United make a move for them remains to be seen.

As we saw at the beginning of last season, bringing in new players can have a massive impact on morale and confidence, and at the moment, it feels like United need something different.

3. A change in tactics

One of the best ways to get the players back onside is via a change in tactics, and it's clear that what's being tried out isn't working.

Under Rangnick, United have been playing a 4-2-2-2/4-4-2, and while things were looking promising in the 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace, performances haven't been great since then.

United were meant to become a pressing team under Rangnick, but we haven't seen that so far. It remains to be seen whether this will change throughout the rest of the season, but something needs to give.

The 4-2-2-2 doesn't suit our players, but I'm not the manager! However, a change in approach/system might get the players back onside because it shows flexibility.

I'm not going to question Rangnick, and he has my full support, but it'll be interesting to see how the team perform in a different system under him.
