Three Teesdale walkers found safe and well after overnight search

Three walkers have been found safe and well after a search for them took place overnight.

Three women, Julie, Joanne and Lucy, all travelled to Middleton-in-Teesdale on Sunday morning to complete a nearly 19-mile walk around High Force and Low Force waterfalls.

The women, who are all in their mid-50s, were believed to have arrived in the area at 10am and were expected to return at 5.30pm that afternoon, however they did not.

After an overnight search involving Durham Constabulary officers and volunteers from Teesdale and Weardale Search and Mountain Rescue Team, police confirmed on Monday morning that the three women were found safe and well.

Julie, Joanne and Lucy are all keen walkers and were wearing full walking gear with boots, maps and compasses, a Durham police spokesperson said in an earlier appeal for information.

The route the women planned to take was Walk 23, High and Low Force, Upper Teesdale.

It was confirmed at 5.40am on Monday that all three women have been found safe and well, around 12 hours after they had been expected to return.
