Three teens airlifted to safety after being left stranded by tide at Scots beach

Three teenagers were airlifted to safety after being cut off by the incoming tide at a Scots beach.

The alarm was raised yesterday after an off-duty coastguard officer spotted the youngsters in the water at Tong Sands, on the Isle of Lewis.

The boys had been left stranded on a sand bar before the coastguard Helicopter R948 swooped in to save them.

After the dramatic rescue the three teenagers were then returned to the hangar at Stornoway Airport.

Police, Stornoway RNLI, and Ness Coastguard Rescue Teams, worked together to make sure the youngsters were saved.

The HM Coastguard said: "If you decide to “Stay Local” and go to the coast this weekend, don’t put yourself at rick.

" Be Beach Safe and check the weather forecast and tidal information for your area."
