Three people have been charged over an alleged break-in at an Aboriginal corporation in Arnhem Land that left three vehicles damaged beyond repair.
The Bawinanga Aboriginal Corporation (BAC) discovered three of its ranger vehicles had been stolen on Sunday morning.
Northern Territory Police allege the teenagers — two aged 17 and one aged 18 — unlawfully entered the corporation's shed at about 2:00am on Sunday "causing significant damage to property".
"They located the keys to three secured vehicles, which were then stolen and driven some distance from the community," a statement from NT Police said.
"Shortly before 3:00am, one of the stolen vehicles crashed and rolled onto its roof; the other two vehicles collided with each other.
"The offenders then allegedly returned to the community in one of the damaged vehicles and returned it to the shed from where it had been stolen. All three vehicles were damaged beyond repair.
"The unlawful entry was captured on CCTV and police were able to identify and arrest the three on Monday."
The teenagers have been charged with aggravated unlawful entry, aggravated unlawful use of a motor vehicle, criminal damage and stealing.
They were remanded in custody to appear in Darwin Local Court and Darwin Youth Courts today.
