Three teenagers arrested following M1 crash at Junction 30

Three teenage boys have been arrested, while another three remain in hospital, following  a crash on the M1 slip road at junction 30.

A stolen Audi A4 crashed into a fuel tanker at around 6.50am on Wednesday, April 3.

After being circulated as stolen by Suffolk Police, the car was located by Nottinghamshire Police  but failed to stop when requested to do so, officers say.

The crash happened on the slip road at Junction 30 of the M1 northbound in Derbyshire after a short chase.

The junction was closed for four hours because of the crash and clear-up work, causing major traffic delays in the surrounding area.

Two boys from Ipswich, aged 14 and 17, and a 14-year-old boy from Thetford have been arrested on suspicion of burglary and other offences.

They have been taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre, in Suffolk, where they remain for questioning.

Three other boys, aged 15, 16 and 17, are in hospital in Sheffield for treatment to serious injuries, which are not life-threatening.

They will be questioned by police later.

Suffolk Police confirmed they were called just before 4.30am on Wednesday to reports of a burglary at a property in Foxhall Road, Ipswich, where an Audi A4 had been stolen.

The car had been left secure on the driveway at 11.30pm the previous night.
