Three tankers hit in latest attacks in Strait of Hormuz, British military says

  • Three tankers were struck by projectiles in the Strait of Hormuz Tuesday, marking the latest attacks on vessels in the narrow Persian Gulf passage.
  • One liquefied natural gas tanker caught fire off the coast of Oman, with Iranian state television stating it had ignored warnings, though not claiming responsibility for the assault.
  • Two other tankers were also hit, as reported by the British military, one by a drone, sustaining damage but causing no injuries, with at least one vessel continuing its journey.
  • These attacks threaten to disrupt global shipping and economic stability, occurring amidst efforts by countries to restore normal practices and ease the strain of the ongoing conflict between the US and Iran .
  • Negotiations between the US and Iran, aimed at fully reopening the strait, addressing Tehran's nuclear programme, and ending the war , are currently paused until after the burial of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, whose funeral mourners called for the death of US President Donald Trump.
