Three taken to hospital - one with critical injuries - following 'collision' involving car and two people in Leigh

Three people have been rushed to hospital, with one suffering 'critical' injuries, following a 'collision' in Leigh.

Police were called to the incident, involving one vehicle and two pedestrians, on Slag Lane, Lowton, at about 9.15am today (July 3).

One person has been left with 'critical' injuries.

A woman in her 70s has suffered injuries to her leg.

Another person was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

No further details on the incident, or those involved, have been released at this stage.

A scene is in place on Slag Lane, close to the junction with Scott Road, and the street has been closed in both directions.

Officers are asking people to avoid the area, while they carry out investigations at the scene.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "Police are currently responding to a collision in Wigan.

"At around 9.15am on Friday 3 July 2020, police were called to reports of a collision involving one vehicle and two pedestrians on Slag Lane, Lowton.

"Emergency services are in attendance.

"An investigation is underway.

"Road closures are in place and members of the public are being asked to avoid the area."

A spokesperson for North West Ambulance Service said: "We were called shortly before 9.15am and attended with three ambulances, an air ambulance, an advanced paramedic, a rapid response vehicle and an operational commander.

"There were three patients. One had minor injuries, a female in her mid 70s had serious leg injuries, and another patient is in a critical condition."
