Three taken to hospital after incident in Wells Road, Knowle - full police statement

Three people were assaulted and taken to hospital in a serious incident in Knowle this afternoon (February 25).

Police have cordoned off a section of Wells Road and a man has been arrested.

The road remains shut between Redcatch Road and Broad Walk junction.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Constabulary said: "At 3.10pm today we began receiving reports a number of people had been assaulted in the south Bristol area.
 
"Officers attended and subsequently arrested a man in his 30s on Redcatch Road. He remains in custody.

UPDATE: Eye-witnesses have described the attack.

"Three people have been taken to hospital with injuries which aren’t believed to be life threatening.

"A full investigation is already under way.

"While we’re keeping an open mind about the motive, we can confirm we’re not treating the incident as terrorism.

"Road closures are in place as emergency services carry out enquiries and motorists are advised to avoid the area.

A spokesperson for South Western Ambulance Service said they were called at 3.13pm.

He said: "We were called at 3.13pm about an incident on Wells Road, Knowle.

"We treated an injured male patient and transported him to hospital by land ambulance for further care.

"We were called at 3.20pm about a second incident in the Wells Road area of Knowle.

"We sent land ambulance crews, specialist paramedics, and other paramedics to attend the incident.

"We treated three patients at the scene for minor injuries, and transported them to hospital for further care."
